by Osman ParvezLast night, I attended an educational event on hydraulic fracturing (or "fracking") in Boulder. Some of the organizers of the successful Longmont Ban were present, as were representatives of several local environmental groups.
Last summer, I had my very first buyer who removed Erie, Longmont, and Lafayette from consideration because of proximity to fracking wells. She was concerned about the impact that fracking could have on her young daughter's health, and rightfully so. Because of her, distance to oil and gas wells is now on my due diligence checklist.
Even if the health affects don't concern you (they should), fracking will have a growing impact on local real estate values. Frack Free Boulder is a new organization has been created to push for a ban on fracking in Boulder. It's worth checking out and bookmarking.
